FAQs about Pre-Tryout Clinics

What are pre-tryout clinics?

Pre-tryout clinics are like a crash course for volleyball fundamentals, IQ, and tryouts expectations.

How many pre-tryout clinics does my kid need?

Volleyball is a skill sport. Building skill takes time and repetition. No two athletes are alike - some pick up things quickly and some take more time. In general- the more you work, the better prepared you’ll be.

Do pre-tryout clinics guarantee my kid making a team?

We’ve seen great success in the past with kids who didn’t have previous training and consistently attended pre-tryout clinics. Their skill improved, but more than that, they built their confidence and learned how to carry themselves on the court.

However, many things dictated if one makes their team. The ability to contribute to the team and the level of competition within the tryout group are all factors that contribute to whether someone makes the team, and these factors are not in our power. Over-the-mountain schools tend to have very competitive 7th-grade tryouts (many start preparing two years in advance).

How many kids are in the pre-tryout clinics?

On average, 2-10. Classes get fuller the closer we get to tryouts, so it’s best to register early.

What else can my child do to prepare for middle school tryouts?

We highly recommend attending our serving clinics. They’re right after the pre-tryout clinics on Saturdays. The overhand serve is one of the top skills coaches look for at that age. Additionally, all of our members get free access to online programs that they can do at home with just a ball and wall (videos, reps, and instructions on all skills).
